Offering will “redefine premium air travel,” airline promises.
Singapore Airlines has just lifted the wraps off its new cabin products, with the carrier saying the major investment demonstrates its clear commitment to the full-service travel market.
The result of a four year development program, the updated First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy offering will first roll out on a new Singapore Airlines A380 configured with 471 seats – six Singapore Airlines Suites and 78 Business Class seats on the upper deck, along with 44 Premium Economy seats and 343 Economy Class seats on the lower deck.
Set to be deployed across a total of 19 SQ A380s, the massive project represents an investment of more than $1.1 billion Australian dollars.
The six Suites have a separate fully flat bed along with an plush leather armchair. For couples travelling together, the beds in the first two suites of each aisle can be converted to form a double bed, and when not in use the bed can be completely stowed to create more personal space.
The new SQ Business Class seat reclines into a 198cm flat bed and also offers a ‘sun deck’ position for watching entertainment on a 45cm touch screen monitor. Seats are made from carbon fibre and are arranged in a forward-facing 1-2-1 configuration.
Premium Economy seats are 50cm wide with a 96cm seat pitch, with passengers provided with noise-cancelling headphones, a calf-rest and foot bar, individual in-seat power supply and two USB ports.
And finally economy class features a 28cm touch screen, eliminating the need for handsets, along with an in-seat power supply, adjustable footrest and a patented non-intrusive reading light.
SIA ceo Goh Choon Phong said “the significant investment that we are making with the introduction of new cabin products demonstrates our commitment to continued investment in products and services, our long-term approach to ensure we retain our leadership position, and our confidence in the future of premium full-service air travel”.
