Qantas expands Q400 flights to Tasmania, ACT.
Qantas has just announced the addition of more than 1700 seats per week between Melbourne and Tasmania, with capacity boosts to Hobart, Launceston and Devonport.
Qantas Domestic ceo Lyell Strambi said the expansion would include a daily Q400 flight between Melbourne and Hobart alongside the current twice daily B737 services on the route, adding 1036 seats per week.
Launceston Q400 flights will increase from 17 to 28 per week, while two weekly Melbourne-Devonport services will be upgraded from a Q300 to a Q400.
Strambi also announced a retiming of QF’s daily Sydney-Hobart flight, with QF1019 ex Sydney to move from its current 2.15pm departure to 9.25am, arriving in Hobart at 11.15am; while QF1020 ex Hobart will shift from a 10.40am departure to instead leave at 11.55am.
“These changes will have significant appeal to both business and leisure travellers and will provide access to a wider range of connections across the domestic and international network,” Strambi said.
Canberra operations will be boosted with five additional weekly Q400 flights from Adelaide, as well as one weekly return Melbourne-Canberra flight being upgraded from a Q300 to a Q400.
The new Adelaide QF2091/2092 services will depart Canberra at 11.05am and Adelaide at 1.05pm, providing “middle of the day travel options for both business and leisure travellers,” Strambi said.
