Qantas Gold Coast flights to resume after four years.
Qantas ceo Alan Joyce has just officially announced the return of Qantas mainline domestic operations to Coolangatta, four years after the last QF flight operated to the Gold Coast on 31 July 2008.
Effective late Oct the route will be operated three times a day from Sydney using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with the existing Jetstar lounge at the Gold Coast to be refurbished and relaunched as a Qantas Club by the end of the year.
Joyce said the move would also include the introduction of QF’s “smarter, faster check-in kiosks” at Gold Coast Airport.
“Our customers have told us that they want a premium leisure and business service, complementing Jetstar’s existing services as part of our two-brand strategy, and we are responding to that demand,” he said.
“Qantas will be the only domestic airline operating out of the Gold Coast which includes the convenience of a meal and checked in baggage for all passengers as part of the fare no matter what time they are flying or which class they are travelling in,” Joyce added.
Launch fares of $48 one way are available for sale until 3pm AEST on Wed 15 Aug, while special fares will also be available between Coolangatta and other selected Australian cities.
