WYSTC to be held in Sydney in 2013.
The World Youth and Student Travel Conference will be held in Sydney next year, with the 2013 location just announced at this year’s WYSTC in San Diego.
The annual event attracts around 800 delegates from more than 80 countries around the globe, connecting organisations which provide travel products or services to teenagers and travellers in their 20s and early 30s – a market estimated as being worth $157 billion a year.
WYSTC is the key international trade event for the youth travel industry, and was last held in Australia in 2006 when it took place in Melbourne.
ATEC md Felicia Mariani said the conference would give Australian suppliers great exposure in the international marketplace, while Tourism Australia md Andrew McEvoy said WYSTC would help sell the message “that Australia is a wonderful destination full of unique experiences, adventure and a place to explore fully”.
Business Events Sydney secured the event for Sydney and Australia, with WYSTC 2013 to be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in September.
Business Events Sydney ceo Lyn Lewis-Smith said that as well as an economic impact of $5.4 million the conference will “also provide opportunities for valuable international networking and professional development”.
