Back-Roads Touring has launched its UK & Europe Summer 2013 brochure featuring new itineraries in Croatia, Portugal and Southern England as well as a 5% earlybird discount when booked and paid by 15 December.
The 72-page brochure offers 28 itineraries ranging from three to 14 days through England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, Croatia, Spain and Portugal as well as battlefield and event tours based around the Chelsea and Hampton Court flower shows.
The new 7-day Croatia & the Dalmatian Coast takes in the highlights of Split, Korcula, and Dubrovnik as well as Kotor in neighbouring Montenegro from $2650* per person twin share. Departing historic Trogir, highlights include a tour of Diocletian’s Palace in Split, the breathtaking waterfalls and lakes of Krka National Park, a visit to the stunning island of Korcula, oyster tasting in Ston, a stay in the picturesque harbour town of Kotor before finishing in Dubrovnik with a cable car ride up Srd Hill.
Back-Roads has also added the 8-day Discover Portugal & Galicia which combines visits to cosmopolitan Lisbon and Porto with Portugal’s Silver Coast from $3130* per person twin share.
Designed to complement Back-Roads’ existing Spanish Inspiration itinerary, the tour starts in Lisbon and ends in Santiago de Compostela in north-western Spain, with highlights including a visit to Aveiro – the ‘Venice of Portugal’, sparkling/port wine and suckling pig tastings and a stay in rustic accommodation overlooking the Lima Valley and surrounding vineyards.
The new 6-day Flavours of Southern England explores this beautiful part of the UK in a different light, offering a dedicated culinary tour of Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, the New Forest and Dorset. From $2418* per person twin share, it includes lunches at the famous River Cottage Canteen, celebrity chef Mark Hix’s Oyster & Fish House, Marco Pierre White’s Wheeler’s Inn and much more.
“In 2013 we have upgraded our accommodation, placed greater emphasis on food, drink and local produce and introduced more local experiences,” Back-Roads Touring general manager Brad John-Davis said.
“Clients will stay in rustic rural retreats, old country estates, traditional inns and castle hotels like the Chateau de la Bourdaisiere in the Loire Valley; enjoy wonderful dining experiences such as lunch at Rick Stein’s iconic Seafood Restaurant in Padstow or a vineyard lunch in Provence and authentic local experiences such as shellfish trawling with a local fisherman in Scotland and a cruise through south England’s most famous canal.
“And our new luxury mini coaches can go almost anywhere a car can go, which allows us to take guests beyond the tourist façade to discover the real heart of our European destinations.”
Back-Roads has also made changes to several itineraries including the addition of two nights in Chianti and entry to Uffizi Gallery on the 14-day Italian Indulgence; added an extra day on the Highlights of Britain and Heart of England tours; and renamed several products including Corners of Southern Ireland (previously South West Corners of Ireland).
Back-Roads Touring caters for mature travellers with leisurely small group tours of no more than 18 people. The journeys travel along picturesque back roads and explore destinations that are usually bypassed by larger tours. Tours include entrance fees and many meals, with an ‘I-Select’ menu option which gives travellers a choice of dishes from the menu.
