BRUISING RACE TO SURVIVE KICKS OFF ON SUNSHINE COAST
It was always going to be a challenge for the 82 participants in the inaugural Accor Race to Survive – Mission Possible to cope with three days of running, riding and kayaking given the extreme nature of the Sunshine Coast terrain and climate. But what they didn’t count on was the presence of a few brown snakes as the warriors tackled their first mission: Mt Emu.
It was Sofitel Brisbane team member Edwina Mason who reported seeing the slithery characters on her way up the mountain – no doubt a great motivator for the team, because they raced ahead to score second place on Day 1 of Race to Survive.
The first day was a gruelling introduction for the teams that have come to the Sunshine Coast from across Accor’s network in Australia.
The 82 participants returned to Base Camp at Novotel Twin Waters Resort bruised but not beaten, encouraged by the news that they were only a short way off reaching their target of raising $250,000 for Mission Australia projects in every State of Australia.
The Race can be followed on Facebook at www.facebook.com/racetosurvive2011 and the weary warriors would welcome any messages of support from the industry.
