Sunshine Coast tourism industry will join with Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd (SCDL) and meet
with more than 60 inbound tour operators (ITOs) this week in Sydney.
The two-day workshop, run by Tourism Queensland is designed to introduce attending ITOs to
some of the Sunshine Coast’s best and new tourism product to forge relationships and negotiate
deals to increase the region’s share of the inbound travel market.
The event format includes set appointments with an ITO workshop on 17 July and an incentive
workshop on 18 July. The events will also provide networking opportunities.
“ITO’s provide a vital link to getting international visitors to the Sunshine Coast. The workshops will
provide a great opportunity for our industry to meet face-to-face with the right contacts, forge
relationships and negotiate rates, which would otherwise take weeks or months to organise
independently,” SCDL CEO Steve Cooper said.
“This event will allow SCDL to capitalise on relationships established at ATEC Symposium and the
recently attended ATE (Australian Tourism Exchange) and also distribute our new International
Product Manual to these key contacts.
“Many of the local industry that are attending offer new export ready product as part of the
Tourism Queensland/SCDL Internationally Ready Program. Our SCDL trade and business events
staff will support these operators by sitting in on appointments and assisting to educate and
highlight the diversity of experiences and new updates for the Sunshine Coast,” added Mr Cooper.
The eight Sunshine Coast operators attending the workshop with SCDL include: Australian Sunset
Safaris, Coral Beach Noosa Resort, Glass on Glasshouse, IHG- Intercontinental Hotel Group,
Mantra Group, Maroochy River Resort and Bungalows, Queensland Rail Travel and Suncoast Barra
Fishing Park.
The Sunshine Coast attracted 237,000 international visitors to the region at the year ended March
2012. New Zealand is the region’s number one international market, attracting 75,000 visitors for
the same period.
