ABOUT 80 Wendy Wu staff from Australia and the company’s Asian offices got together in the Chinese city of Guangzhou over the long weekend for an exchange of ideas aimed at further streamlining the company’s already extremely popular itineraries.
Staff from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth met with counterparts from China and Vietnam for team-building events and product discussion sessions to pool philosophies on itinerary-building and destination management.
In co-operation with China Southern Airlines the event was held at the centrally-located five-star Jianguo Hotel and gave staff an opportunity to meet each other and experience first-hand the growth of the city and learn of its value as an emerging tourist destination in China.
Australian managing director Alan Alcock spoke to staff at a team building event where staff learned the ancient art of karate from well-known Master instructor, as well as forming a Chinese Samba band learning the techniques of instruments such as the gojo.
Mr Alcock said the event helped to build a better foundation for the company and that having three national offices present was testament to how the company has grown over the last five years.
He added, “It was fantastic to see the interaction of the staff from Australia, Vietnam and China, as their team work and open communication lines are what provides the consumers with such excellent product and standard of service.
“Our growth as a company over the last year is an indication of how strong and committed all our staff are to increasing the brand name not only in head operations in Australia but around the world”.
General manager of Jianguo Hotel Charles Yeung said he was delighted to assist with staging the event as it helped increase the awareness of Guangzhou as a destination for the Australian market and highlighted the city’s growing tourism infrastructure.
