Four personal travel managers from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland have joined 12 other travel agents and a journalist on a famil hosted by the Jordan Tourism Board.
The party spent five days travelling Jordan’s ancient and artisan sights, from the Dead Sea and Petra, to mosaic workshops on the descent from Mt Nebo. The group enjoyed bulging platters of fresh mezza with delicious warm Arabic bread everywhere they went.
“The food is incredible, particularly the specialty dessert “Um Ali” which is a fragrant milky custard containing nuts, plump raisins and a hint of cinnamon” says personal travel manager, Robin Woods, from Shoal Bay, New South Wales.
“We were hosted on a cruise on the Red Sea and those who chose to snorkel, scuba or swim were treated to an amazing display of clear water and stunning fish and coral,” she says.
Christopher Cogan from Victoria says the tour included a ‘speed date’ with a host of Jordanian operators, eager to share their offerings with the Australian market. “The government is obviously very keen to support their operators and tourism in Jordan,” he says. “The fact that TravelManagers had the largest representation of any of the travel companies on the famil, shows they see us as one of the most trusted channels for effectively on-selling their product in Australia. This is perfect, because first–hand experience is everything to be able to sell destinations like Jordan confidently.”
“After this trip I can easily see that Jordan is a destination that deserves more than a stop-over,” says Woods. “You can day trip from Amman and Aqaba and choose an eco-adventure in the Wadi Rum like canyoning, sky diving, or staying in Bedouin camp. You can immerse yourself in history and culture, visiting ancient cities or enroll in a cooking school, or you can just indulge yourself and stay at one of the many resorts here with exceptional spa facilities, and be pampered by expert therapists.
“I can also let my clients know what to expect not just from the products offered but everyday practical information, such as is there an ATM at the airport?,” says Woods. That’s the sort of information that puts us ahead. Access to these famils is so important to me growing my business and staying on the leading edge of travel. I’m very happy that TravelManagers creates these opportunities. It means I can work on my own time at my own pace and still be plugged into famils and developments in travel all around the world.”
