Accor held its inaugural TMC Challenge at the Mercure Sydney. Representatives from over a dozen travel management companies pitted their skills against each other in a fiendishly difficult trivia challenge, where they were quizzed on their music, film, sports, travel and geography skills. They also had to use Play Doh to create team mascots, which sorted out the kindergarten whizzes from the rest. The event was sponsored by China Southern Airlines, who provided a ticket for a lucky winner to travel to their hub in Guangzhou and stay for five nights at the swish new Sofitel, as well as Europcar and Fairchild Audio Visual services, while Accor hotels in NSW and Queensland handed out a multitude of hotel prizes. Not surprisingly, there wasn’t a spare seat in the Mercure’s ballroom and the participants left with just one question unanswered – when’s the next showdown? Well it is going to be sooner rather than later, according to Accor corporate sales supremo Jo Morrow, because a Brisbane event is being finalised and Jo was suggesting that TMC staff should start practising their bare-foot bowling skills because the next Sydney challenge is likely to involve red (probably wine rather than blood) spilled on the greens.
