With Sydney’s temperatures soaring, the best place to chill is the new pop up bar, The Deck, at the Swiss Grand Bondi. With spectacular views over the rolling waves and white sand of the world’s most famous beach, cooling ocean breezes, refreshing cocktails and a DJ playing cool sounds, it’s a great spot to watch the sun set as the sufers come in from the sea. With the Swiss Grand closing in May this year for a new development including a new hotel, retail space and residential apartments, Richard Holt, General Manager of the Swiss Grand said the staff decided they should “go out with a bang instead of a whimper” so the concept of the pop-up bar was created to allow guests and locals to enjoy the best deck in Bondi before it disappears. Fake turf, tiki torches, ambient lighting, multi-coloured beach balls and comfortable lounges create a relaxed vibe and encourage patrons to linger. Last night Accor held an intimate cocktail function at the hotel to celebrate summer and were surprised to bump into several travel industry colleagues who were also there to check out the new space. You could say the night was a success, with many staying on hours after the event had finished to enjoy the cool night air and tasty nibbles. The Deck is open Thursdays – Sundays until the end of March, and will host several themed parties, with a big bash for planned for Australia Day and a Brazilian party on the 27th.
