Qantas to codeshare on SriLankan Airlines flights to Colombo.
Qantas has just announced a new codeshare agreement with its new oneworld partner SriLankan Airlines, with the QF code to be placed on UL’s daily Singapore-Colombo service.
In turn SriLankan will codeshare on Qantas flights from Singapore to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
The move is effective for travel from 26 October 2014, and Qantas said passengers will be able to connect over Singapore to the Colombo services within 2-3 hours.
QF Executive Manager International Sales, Stephen Thompson, said the move would boost travel options for the increasing number of Australians visiting Sri Lanka and destinations beyond such as the Maldives.
The new codeshare with Sri Lankan complements QF’s existing Singapore-Colombo daily flights operated by Emirates, and gives customers the choice of either a morning or evening departure from Singapore.
SriLankan head of commercial operations, Mohamed Fazeel, said it was also a “tremendous opportunity to boost tourism between Sri Lanka and Australia”.
