EXCLUSIVE – business class at economy prices for Singapore Airlines customers.
Singapore Airlines has just confirmed it will honour all bookings made on the weekend before last, when an issue saw certain Business Class bookings able to be made at an “outdated Economy Class fare level”.
After the mixup was first revealed by Travel Daily (TD 04 December) the story went viral, with news outlets across the globe highlighting the issue.
The airline had previously warned that it would levy an ADM on any agent whose booked customers flew on the incorrect fare level. As many as 900 of the bargain fares – up to $5,000 off – are believed to have been sold online between Saturday 29 November and Monday 01 December.
However Travel Daily can now exclusively reveal details of an update just issued by Singapore Airlines, saying that in order to ensure there is no disruption to travel plans the carrier “will be contacting affected customers and travel agents to advise that their Business Class bookings will be honoured at the original fare purchased”.
It’s also understood that contrary to previous advice, the bargain fare did appear on the Singapore Airlines website for a short time over the weekend. The issue was due to a booking class being reassigned from Economy Class to Business Class.
The carrier has apologised for any inconvenience, and said it was continuing to carry out investigations to determine the root cause of the issue.
