Qantas continues Japanese expansion plans.
Qantas has just announced a four times weekly direct service between Brisbane and Tokyo Narita Airport, with the new route to debut in August next year.
The flight will complement a new daily Sydney-Tokyo Haneda service, while the Japanese expansion plan will also see QF fly to Narita “on three alternate days from another Australian port, which will be finalised shortly”.
The growth will see Qantas add more than 4,000 weekly seats onto the Japan route, with a combination of Boeing 747 (to Haneda) and Airbus A330 (to Narita) services.
Qantas ceo Alan Joyce made the announcement at QF’s Brisbane Heavy Maintenance Facility, with the move following the recent securing by the carrier of peak slots into Haneda. He said the expansion had been made possible through improved aircraft utlisation.
As well as giving direct access for Queenslanders into Tokyo, the new route, combined with Jetstar flights into Cairns and te Gold Coast, is “great news for tourism because it makes Queensland more accessible to Japanese travellers,” he said.
Fares for the new routes will be available progressively from later this week, with sale levels starting at $899 return for Brisbane-Narita.
