Thrice weekly Auckland-Buenos Aires services to debut in December 2015.
Air New Zealand has just announced its first ever scheduled services to South America, with 777-200 services to operate three times a week from December 2015.
Buenos Aires in Argentina will be the airline’s 28th international port, and NZ ceo Christopher Luxon said the new destination “opens up an exciting new world for travellers from both New Zealand and Australia.
“Buenos Aires is the most popular tourist city in South America, and is a perfect stepping stone for those who then want to explore the country, or continent, further,” he said.
The service will also enable Argentinans to travel directly to NZ and then onto Australia on Air New Zealand’s trans-Tasman network, or to Singapore and South East Asia, Luxon added.
Air NZ will enter into a codeshare agreement with Aerolineas Argentinas, which withdrew its own flights to Australia in April this year. The AR code will be placed on the Air New Zealand trans-Pacific services as well as on key connecting Tasman flights.
Tourism NZ ceo Kevin Bowler welcomed the news, with the organisation significantly investing in the Latin American market including the establishment of an office in the region a year ago.
Tickets for the new service are expected to be on sale in March next year.
