Whitsundays flights revamped, Brisbane-Tokyo to operate daily.
Qantas has just announced a revamp of its international and domestic network into Queensland, with the move expanding direct flights into the state.
The upcoming Brisbane-Tokyo Narita service will be boosted from the planned four times per week flight to a daily operation, increasing capacity to more than 4,000 seats per week.
A dual-brand revamp of Qantas and Jetstar flying will see an overall expansion of capacity into the Whitsunday Coast region, including a new twice weekly direct Qantas flight between Melbourne and Hamilton Island from 27th June, with QF taking over the route from Jetstar.
Jetstar will in turn commence a thrice weekly direct service from Melbourne to Whitsunday Coast Airport (Proserpine) from 26th June.
“This is great news for Qantas customers who now have a range of new, direct travel options,” said Qantas regional manager for Queensland, Peter Collyns.
“We’ve worked closely with Brisbane Airport to increase our upcoming Tokyo route to a daily service, as well as Tourism and Events Queensland and the Queensland Government,” he added.
And Jetstar Australia/NZ ceo David Hall said the carrier was delighted to offer a direct Melbourne service to Proserpine.
“Low fares encourage more travel demand and there will be plenty of Melburnians looking for some warmer weather when this new service starts,” he said.
