Interim approval granted so new LAX and SFO services can be introduced.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has just announced the granting of interim authorisation for the expanded alliance between Qantas and American Airlines.
While the ACCC said the interim approval is not indicative of whether or not final authorisation will be granted, the decision will allow the carriers to introduce new joint services between Australia and the USA.
“The ACCC considers that granting interim authorisation is likely to lead to additional capacity on the Sydney to Los Angeles route, and increased capacity and competition on the Sydney to San Francisco route,” said ACCC Commissioner, Dr Jill Walker.
“This is likely to result in benefits to passengers that wish to use these services,” she said.
Submissions on the application have now closed, with the ACCC now proceeding to prepare its draft determination.
