Qantas/American Airlines trans-Pacific alliance set for extension.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has just issued a draft determination in favour of re-authorising the trans-Pacific alliance between Qantas and American Airlines for a further five years.
The decision follows interim authorisation for the partnership which was granted in Jul to faciliate the resumption of Qantas’ services to San Francisco and American Airlines’ new Los Angeles-Sydney flights.
“The ACCC considers this alliance would be likely to result in continued public benefits for passengers travelling between Australia and the US through enhanced products and services including new frequencies and destinations, more online connections, better scheduling, greater loyalty program benefits and improved lounge access,” ACCC Commissioner Dr Jill Walker said.
“The alliance is also likely to promote competition between other airlines that provide services on trans-Pacific routes,” Walker added.
Submissions on the draft determination are being accepted by the ACCC up until 18 Dec.
