Changes impact Sydney-Abu Dhabi route, with Etihad moving to double daily.
Virgin Australia has just announced the 4 April 2017 launch of five weekly non-stop flights between Melbourne and Los Angeles, using its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
The carrier will also introduce three weekly direct A330-200 services from Perth to Abu Dhabi effective 9 June 2017, boosting frequencies on the route to ten per week in partnership with Etihad Airways. This will be the first long-haul international route to be operated by the Virgin Australia A330 fleet.
The network rejig will see VA cease flying its 777s between Sydney and Abu Dhabi, but Etihad will add three weekly frequencies on the route to maintain a double daily operation.
VA ceo John Borghetti said “The United States is a key market for Virgin Australia and this enables us to service Los Angeles from the three biggest gateways in Australia – Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney”.
