Market conditions have made the route no longer viable.
Virgin Australia has just announced the cancellation of its previously announced plans to operate flights between Perth and Abu Dhabi.
The carrier said last September that it planned to introduce thrice weekly flights on the route, using A330-200 aircraft with the inaugural service to take place in June 2017.
“Subsequent changes in market conditions have made the route no longer viable for Virgin Australia,” according to a statement just issued. However customers can continue to book travel on VA’s alliance partner, Etihad Airways, which operates daily services between the cities.
“Virgin Australia will continue to explore opportunities to bring choice and competition to travel from Perth,” the airline said.
