Paul Scurrah to take over from John Borghetti effective 25 March 2019.
Virgin Australia has just announced the appointment of Paul Scurrah as its new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.
Scurrah has been appointed after an “extensive global search,” according to Virgin Australia Group Chairman Elizabeth Bryan. “Paul is a highly regarded business leader in Australia and his appointment is testament to his strong leadership credentials which include more than 20 years’ expereince in transport, logistics, travel and aviation,” she said.
VA’s new CEO was most recently CEO at DP World Australia, with previous senior roles at Queensland Rail, Aurizon, Tourism Queensland and Flight Centre.
Scurrah will officially commence his role on 25 March 2019, and will also join the Virgin Australia Holdings Limited Board, while current CEO and MD John Borghetti will step down on the same date.
“Paul inherits a strong business and we are confident he is well placed to deliver the next phase of the Group’s strategy,” Bryan said.
She also paid tribute to Borghetti, saying he had “pioneered a major transformation in the aviation industry to reposition the airline as a formidable competitor across all segments of the market”.
