Ongoing unrest in Hong Kong precipitates Virgin departure.
Following a comprehensive review of the route, Virgin Australia has revealed it will dump services between Australia and Hong Kong from 02 March.
Virgin Australia Group Chief Commercial Officer John MacLeod said the decision to withdraw from the major travel hub was a “difficult” one, but the carrier’s future international strategy was still in good shape.
“Current circumstances demonstrate that Hong Kong is no longer a commercially viable route for Virgin Australia to continue operating, however international tourism remains an important part of our strategy,” he said.
Guests booked on flights between Sydney and Hong Kong after 02 March 2020 will be contacted by Virgin to convey alternative arrangements.
