Level 4 “do not travel” advisory escalated to total ban.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has just announced a total ban on international travel, saying that some Australians are continuing to head overseas on leisure trips despite the current Level 4 advisory.
Exceptions will be made for aid workers and for compassionate, employment and other essential travel.
Speaking after a meeting of the National Cabinet, Morrison has also announced extended restrictions to help deal with the coronavirus crisis, including suggesting a limit of gatherings to no more than 10 people and closing shopping centre food courts and businesses such as beauty salons.
However schools will remain open, and Morrison also stressed that anyone who has a job is providing an “essential service”.
