Regional carriers thrown a lifeline by Federal Government.
Deputy Prime Minister, Michael McCormack, has this morning announced a $198 million Regional Air Network Assistance Package, assisting carriers to continue operation through the COVID-19 crisis.
MCormack said the $198 million in funding would underwrite airlines’ operating costs on selected regional routes, building on an earlier $715 million in support already announced for the struggling aviation sector.
An additional $100 million is also available to provide direct financial support to smaller regional airlines, should it be needed, the Deputy PM added.
Airlines, contracted aero-medical providers and a range of other essential service providers can apply for this support through a grants program, and subject to financial analysis will be eligible for assistance on a month-by-month basis through to 30 September 2020.
Grant guidelines for this additional $100 million are currently being finalised, with program documentation to become available at www.grants.com.au.
