Helloworld CEO honoured for distinguished service to business.
Andrew Burnes has today been named an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the Queen’s Birthday 2020 Honours List.
The formal citation notes his “distinguished service to business, particularly through a range of travel industries, to professional tourism organisations, and to the community”.
As well as being CEO of Helloworld Travel Limited since 2016, Burnes was the Founder, CEO and Managing Director of The AOT Group from 1987 to 2016.
He’s also been a Director of the Tourism Australia Board, National Chair of the Australian Tourism Export Council and Honorary Federal Treasurer of the Liberal Party of Australia, while Burnes’ charitable involvement includes as a Director of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and a supporter of the School of St Jude in Arusha, Tanzania.
Others named in the Queens Birthday Honours List included BIG4 Parks founder Desmond Watts, awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM); former Tourism Queensland Chair Patrick Jackman, who received an Officer of the Oder of Australia (AO); and former Tourism Western Australia Chair Kate Lamont, named a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).
