Qantas secures extra capacity via Alliance.
Alliance Airlines has agreed to lease Qantas up to 14 of its 94-seat Embraer E190 aircraft as part a new wet lease agreement which will come into effect from mid-2021.
The new deal will cover an initial period of three years and is expected to provide QantasLink with more flexibility to cater for a predicted uptick in local tourism demand once travel restrictions gradually begin to ease.
The jets have a five-hour flying range and will service routes between Darwin, Adelaide and Alice Springs.
“The ability to switch on extra capacity with Alliance will help us make the most of opportunities in a highly competitive environment and having the right aircraft on the right route helps us deliver the schedule and network that customers want,” said QantasLink CEO John Gissing.
Qantas currently owns a 20% stake in Alliance Airlines, which is also a key partner to QF’s rival Virgin Australia.
