Total includes previously announced $75.5 million in travel agent support and $60 million to accelerate international arrivals.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has tonight handed down the Federal Budget for 2022, with key industry initiatives including a one-off 30% increase in Working Holiday Makers across all country caps in 2022-23 to help the Australian retail, hospitality, tourism and hotel sectors to tackle workforce shortages.
Frydenberg said a total of $146.5 million was being provided to support the tourism industry, including the already confirmed $75.5 million allocation of a “third and final round of the Consumer Travel Support Program”.
The budget also includes the recently announced allocation of $60 million over two years for Tourism Australia to attract more visitors from “new and diverse international markets,” and $6.8 million for the implementation of the THRIVE 2030 long-term strategy for tourism recovery.
Tourism Minister Dan Tehan said since March 2020 the Government had provided more than $20 billion in assistance to the tourism and hospitality sector via JobKeeper, the Cash Flow Boost and targeted programs including the Consumer Travel Support, Zoos and Aquariums, Business Events Grants, Recovery for Regional Tourism and Tourism Aviation Network Support programs.
