Daily Cairns-Haneda non-stops to debut in June 2023.
Virgin Australia has this morning announced a new route between Australia and Japan, with Cairns-Tokyo Haneda services scheduled to commence on 28 June 2023.
The move is being announced in partnership with the Queensland Government and Cairns Airport, with year-round daily flights to be operated using new Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
VA will strengthen its agreement with All Nippon Airways, with plans for expanded codeshare services and reciprocal loyalty benefits to be implemented throughout 2023.
Launch fares lead in at $699 return, with Queensland Tourism Minister, Stirling Hinchliffe, saying the flights are being supported by the state’s $200 million Attracting Aviation Investment fund.
“Japan is an important part of our inbound international tourism recovery plan for iconic destinations like Cairns and Tropical North Queensland,” he said.
Virgin Australia CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said “Virgin Australia is a proud Queensland company and we’re delighted to add over 2,000 seats between these iconic destinations every week which means more value and choice for Australians wanting to travel to Japan”.
