Entire travel sector invited to provide feedback as part of commitment to transparency and inclusiveness.
The Australian Federation of Travel Agents has this morning formally released a draft of its proposed new Constitution, which follows a major review of ATAS and the association’s governance arrangements last year.
Significant changes include a new transparent voting and membership structure based on TTV rather than number of retail outlets, clarification on fees for concessional members, and a modernisation of the language in the Constitution – in particular updating references to Travel Intermediaries rather than travel agents.
AFTA CEO Dean Long said the Board was “united in its support and focus on getting this right, so that as travel’s peak industry body we represent and are seen to truly represent our membership base, and that we continue to evolve to be ‘fit for purpose’ in the massively transformed landscape we now operate in”.
He noted that the update comes alongside significant changes to ATAS last year which recognised the variety of business models accredited through the program. “ATAS continues to be Australia’s largest and most representative accreditation scheme, which has been the bedrock of elevating standards for travel agents, tour operators, wholesalers and consolidators,” Long added.
