The Flying Kangaroo has been knocked back on its request to coordinate operations with China Eastern Airlines.
The ACCC today has issued a draft determination which denies authorisation for Qantas and China Eastern to coordinate passenger and cargo transport operations between Australia and China until the end of March 2024.
The alliance “may breach competition laws”, the ACCC said, pointing out that China Eastern is the only airline flying direct between Sydney and Shanghai, and that it’s unlikely that additional services will be implemented between now and March 2024.
