Air New Zealand ceo resigns.
Air New Zealand chief executive officer Rob Fyfe has just confirmed his resignation, which will become effective at the end of 2012.
Fyfe has been ceo since 2005, with his departure to coincide with the end of his term as Chairman of the Star Alliance, as well as the completion of four years as an IATA board member.
He said that when he was appointed to the job Air NZ “faced some extremely significant challenges as we set about reinvesting in our business, enhancing our competitiveness and regaining our world class reputation”.
He said he would continue to work hard as CEO for the remainder of the year, saying “I want to leave Air New Zealand with the confidence that we have the pathway to sustainable strong growth to support the New Zealand economy”.
Air NZ chairman John Palmer said the board expected significant international interest in the ceo role, as well as there being some “very strong candidates from within Air New Zealand’s existing executive management team” with an announcement about a successor likely to be made in the next six months.
