Travel Daily flew with Cathay Pacific from Sydney to Hong Kong return recently and got to experience their business class product aboard their B777-300ER aircraft. There are 40 flat bed seats in business class, 32 recliner seats in premium economy and 268 standard seats in economy class. The airline operates services from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Cairns and Perth.
The outbound flight from Sydney departed on-time at 10:15am and our seat, 22G was very comfortable given the 82 inch pitch and 21 inch width. Business class seats are in a 1-2-1 formation and all have direct aisle access.
Upon boarding business class customers are greeted with a selection of drinks including Piper Heidsieck cuvee brut champagne as well as an amenities kit and warm refreshment towel. There’s ample storage for personal items at floor level, beside your seat where your entertainment control resides as well as overhead.
There’s more than 100 movies and TV shows offered each month on the AVOD (Audio/Video On Demand) system. For those inclined, there’s 34 games to play, hundreds of CD albums and a comprehensive list of inflight reading materials to make your way through. Noise cancelling headsets are provided.
There is a diverse array of food and beverage options in business class across breakfast, lunch and dinner with additional refreshment and supper options depending on when you’re flying. Our starter was a smoked mackrel and daikon pepper salad.
Lunch was the Kung po prawns, stir fried vegetables and steamed jasmine rice.
Our meal was finished off with an inaya chocolate mousse with pistachio, raspberry and white chocolate as well as a selection of cheeses.
Our return flight from Honk Kong back to Sydney found us seated in 22D and departed just before midnight so there was opportunity to try the fully flat bed. A comfy mattress was provided and as the cabin lights were dimmed this provided an environment conducive for several hours sleep.
Waking up with about an hour’s flight time to go before landing, breakfast was served and one of the lighter options was chosen.
Both flights to Hong Kong and back in business class were very pleasant and comfortable. There’s time to power through some work, catch some entertainment and still manage some sleep to take advantage of the fully flat bed. Service was impeccable.
