Luxury safari company African Wildlife Safaris and Specialized Bicycles Australia are pleased to announce their sponsorship of a new national level road cycling team, officially named the African Wildlife Safaris Cycling Team. This group of talented young riders will compete in the 2012 Australian National Road Series and will bear the African Wildlife Safaris (major sponsor) and utilize Specialized bicycles and components.
Steve Cameron, CEO of African Wildlife Safaris, has for many years been a keen cyclist, competitor and sponsor of cycling related charities such as the Amy Gillett Foundation. “This sponsorship deal is more than just a marketing initiative for the company” says Steve. “We are pleased to be able to encourage young, up-coming riders and to create opportunities for junior development within a road cycling team. At the same time we will be raising our company profile with recreational cyclists who match our safari client profile.”
Managing Director of Specialized Australia, Sam Monardo, was equally excited to sign the new team, “Specialized is delighted to be involved with the African Wildlife Safari Cycling Team. The professionalism shown in the planning and coordination of this fledgling team is a true reflection of the passion the staff and riders hold for the sport of cycling in Australia. I’m looking forward to seeing them in the winners circle many times this year”.
The African Wildlife Safaris Cycling Team hopes to make an impact on the NRS series this year. They have a varied group of cyclists, aged from 18 to 35 with a range of strengths including climbing, sprinting, and endurance with the ability to take on endurance stage races. Team Manager and mentor for the younger cyclists is Steve Waite, who comes from a professional triathlon background including team management. Most recently Steve was 14th in the 2011 Melbourne to Warrnambool.
An eye-catching new cycling kit with a lion on the front has been designed for the team, whilst another set (without product sponsors’ logos) is available for any recreational rider.
The team will be using Specialized’s S-Work Tarmac and Venge road bikes exclusively this season, as well as utilising patented Body Geometry Shoes and saddles. Specialized Tyres and S-Works Prevail helmets will also be a part of the teams association with the bicycle and components brand. |
