Aloha Sydney! Yes, it was the harbour city’s turn to welcome the big Aloha Down Under Roadshow held last night at a glittering Luna Park. Fresh from shows on the Gold Coast on Monday night and Brisbane last night, the annual event attracted around 300 travel agents and Hawaii retail partners who met and mingled with reps from Hawaii’s top hotels, attractions and airlines. The agents were welcomed with leis, hula dancers and ukulele singers.
“We’ve had the highest number of rsvp’s on record for our events which shows how much interest there is in the market for the Hawaiian Islands,” said Helen Williams, Country Manager for Hawaii Tourism Oceania. “Australians visiting Hawaii were up 32% in 2011 compared to 2010, and in the first quarter of this year, visitation has skyrocketed 52%, which is amazing,” said Williams.
She puts it down to the strong AU$, cheaper air fares and a daily Hawaiian Airlines Sydney to Honolulu service, and with Hawaiian Airlines larger A330 aircraft now on the route with 297 seats, there are an extra 30 seats a day for agents to sell. Each island gave a 10-20 minute presentation updating attendees with new product information. The final roadshow takes place in Melbourne tonight, before heading to Auckland.
