APT makes booking #1,000,000
APT reservations consultant Bianca Brearley (pictured right) last week managed APT’s one millionth booking.
The reservation was made on Tuesday at 1.49pm. Bianca’s colleague Jenny Quach (left) won the staff competition for nominating the nearest time for the milestone booking, which was a Tour Code U30, Kings Canyon Guided Climb from Kings Canyon Resort package for a family of four for agent Territory Discoveries.
APT National Sales Manager, Susan Haberle said that while the anticipated booking generated a lot of fun, the sense of occasion and achievement for the company was not lost on APT’s 650 employees.
“It highlights our history and the McGeary family’s strong focus on customer service and continuing product development in new markets,” she said. “Importantly, they have also built a really great corporate culture.”
The APT business dates back to owner Geoff McGeary’s father, Bill McGeary, building a bus body onto a tray truck after a cable tram strike crippled the city of Melbourne in the early 1920s.
Today, APT is still owned and controlled by the McGeary family in Melbourne, operating escorted tours and cruises in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Eastern Europe, Russia, Scandinavia, Baltics, Canada-Alaska, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and South America.
APT pioneered the European river cruising product in the Australian market which resulted in APT partnering with the experienced European river ship operator AMAWATERWAYS to build APT-branded river ships for Europe and the Mekong River.
In Russia APT has a major interest in the GW Travel which holds an exclusive lease on the US$25million Golden Eagle train.

In recent years in Australia, APT has also invested in building wilderness lodges in partnership with original landowners and designing its own small group 4WD vehicles for adventure experiences. |
