Boronia Travel Centre – Australian War Memorial Gallipoli and Western Front Battlefield Tours 2012
Now in their 19th year, the Australian War Memorial presents its “Official Battlefield Tours” for 2012. From the hauntingly beautiful ridges, valleys and beaches of the Gallipoli Peninsula to the evening Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres, the Australian War Memorial tour of Gallipoli and the Western Front embraces the major sites where Australian soldiers served.
These battlefield tours are specifically designed by the Memorial’s historians and curators, and are both a commemorative and educational journey into an important part of our nation’s history, and for some, a personal pilgrammage. They blend these opportunities with visits to famous cultural sites, and many fascinating places not found on the normal tourist routes.
The tours are lead by some of Australia’s most experienced and respected military historians who have travelled and written about these battlefields for over 20 years. Their knowledge is unsurpassed and with the resources available to them, they are able to assist with any family research you may be doing.
The Gallipoli tour now has six full days on the Peninsula, staying in a lovely beach resort just minutes south of Anzac Cove. We are the only tour operator who has access to this exclusive location which allows us to visit all the major sites whilst returning to the hotel for all meals. A highlight of the tour is an exclusive boat tour along the Gallipoli coastline to see the ridges and valleys from the sea, as Anzacs did on the dawn of 25 April 1915. Our time on the Peninsula allows us to enjoy the battlefields and surroundings prior to the large number of visitors arriving on 24 April.
We again offer two options for the Western Front. One includes the Dawn Service at Villers Bretonneux and the other allows those attending Anzac Day at Gallipoli to continue on to the Western Front. Both Western front tours visit the major sites where Australian soldiers saw battle in Flanders and the Somme areas, and include a stop at Compeigne where the Armistice was signed on 11 November 1918. They also include participation in the very moving Last Post ceremony at Menin Gate in Ypres.
With access to a vast array of documentation, maps, films and photographs from the archives at the Australian War Memorial to enhance your experience, we assure you a wonderful and memorable tour.
