The Ambassadors will greet every cruise ship arriving in the Harbour City during the busy cruise season to provide tips and help cruise pax explore the sights in the port, and recommend places to eat, shop, and galleries and museums to see.

“The City of Sydney cruise volunteers program is a fantastic way of letting international cruise pax know they are welcome in the city that has helped make Australia the fastest growing cruise market in the world'” said Ann Sherry ceo of Carnival Australia.

“It’s about showcasing our city to the world, enticing travellers to spend locally and hopefully go home happy to recommend their friends visit Sydney by ship, added Sherry.

She said the volunteers will play an important role in greeting this year’s record 265 international and domestic cruise ships – up from 198 last season.

“The program also underlines cruising’s economic value to Sydney with updated information from Deloitte Access Economics showing the total economic contribution to Sydney this cruise season will be $622 million, contributing 5741 full time equivalent jobs”, Sherry said.

Carrying more than 1900 pax, Oosterdam is the first of the line’s Vista-class ships to be based in Australia for the entire cruise season
