Gecko’s raises $9000 to donate to The School of St Jude
April 3, 2012
As part of Gecko’s commitment to supporting local projects in the destinations they travel to, $4,500 was raised at a recent fundraising event hosted by Gecko’s, in support of The School of St Jude in Tanzania. This amount was matched on a dollar for dollar basis by a private donor resulting in an incredible donation of $9000 to help St Jude’s in their fight against poverty through education in Tanzania.
Gecko’s raffled a trip for two to Tanzania and auctioned prizes donated by Zoos Victoria, Oxfam and photographer Peter Lemon.
The School of St Jude was founded by Australian, Gemma Sisia in 2002 and now provides free education to over 1500 of the poorest children in Arusha, Tanzania. A donation of $9000 will enable the school to buy computers, science equipment and much needed bedding and furniture for the boarding school.
Gecko’s visits The School of St Jude on 16 of their tours in East Africa. Spending time with the kids and seeing the amazing work Gemma has done in establishing the school is a major highlight for many Gecko’s clients.
Two of Gecko’s most popular tours that visit The School of St Jude are:
• 8-day Tanzanian Trails
• 15-day East Africa Safari
