The Kenya Tourist Board (KTB) will be travelling across Australia this week for the ‘Jambo Australia Sales Mission’ in efforts to promote Kenya as the premier African destination, boost their visitation from Australia, and continue to build relations with travel trade and media. KTB will be joined by 10 Kenyan operators and Kenya Airways. Events take place in Melbourne (2nd July), Sydney (4 & 5th July) and Brisbane(6th July).
The sales mission kicks off today in Melbourne with John Chirchir, Regional Marketing Manager of Kenya Tourist Board Headquarters, providing travel trade partners with a destination update, followed by B2B sessions with each operator and ending the day with a cocktail function. The same sessions will be held in Sydney on Wednesday, 4th July but will be in the presence of H. E. Mr. Stephen K. Tarus, High Commissioner of Kenya. On Thursday, 5th July the Kenyan delegation will meet Sydney’s top travel writers at a luncheon event evocative of being in the Kenyan bush at Botanic Restaurant in Sydney’s Botanical Gardens.
Kenya continues to prove its popularity with Australian safari seekers with impressive 23.9% growth in Australian visitor numbers for 2011, compared with 21.2% in 2010. Total visitors in 2011 were 24,226, compared with 19,560 in 2010.
Total arrivals into Kenya last year were 1,095,842, showing a 15.4% growth overall with the UK still being the number one source market, followed by the US. Australia ranks at number 10 source market out of 31 countries.
Reports have even identified that Kenya will continue to outperform those of other African destinations. Peak season is during the annual wildebeest migration, however Kenya offers an abundance of wildlife year round, diverse eco-systems including mountains, savannahs, forests, deserts, untouched beaches, and a cultural experience like no other.
The Kenya Tourist Board, Australia office has coordinated their 4 day showdown. Alison Roberts-Brown, Regional Manager Australia, said “it’s exciting to have this Kenyan delegation visit Australia to meet with the travel industry and media. More and more Australians are travelling to Kenya each year seeking unrivaled wildlife experiences and diversity. The warm, welcoming spirit and hospitality of the Kenyan people also entices Australians to visit not only once, but time and time again.”
The Kenyan operators visiting Australia this week are Serena Hotels, Vintage Africa, Private Safaris, SafariLink, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Kenya, Twiga Tours, Sun Africa Hotels, Sarova Hotels, Safari Trails, and Africareps, accompanied John Chirchir from the Kenya Tourist Board, Nairobi. |
