COME to Kerala – Ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney once referred to the Indian state as “Truly God’s Own Country.” That was the message Kerala Tourism had for the industry at its Sydney roadshow last night
where agents came to learn more about the destination.
Kerala is India’s southern-most state on the Arabian Sea, and with a population of 13 million and a coastline stretching some 600 kilometres, it is one of the ten
paradises of the world, according to National Geographic Traveller. “Kerala is off the beaten track
and it’s becoming Asia’s fastest growing hotspot,” said T.K. Manoj J Kumar, Director of Tourism. He said Kerala is known for its golden beaches and a network of tranquil backwaters and canals that make it the Venice of the
East, and the best way to see them is on a houseboat that can carry up to 2 to 3 families, or smaller vessels for 1 or 2 people. “We’re also a wellness destination and we’re the only place in the world where the holistic system of herbal medicine based on nature called Ayurveda is practised to perfection,” said Kumar.
“It’s good for getting you back in shape and great for the treatment of old age ailments.” Pictured at the event last night is the prize winner of the night, Nadina Bross from Adventure World (right) with Amar Singh, Assistant Director India Tourism, T.K Manoj Kumar, Secretary, Kerala Tourism and Rani George, Director Kerala Tourism
