Johannesburg Tourism hosted a ‘Rediscover Joburg Welcome Party’ for its Meetings Africa delegates last night.
Johannesburg is “entrenching itself as a premier convention centre” said Lindiwe Kwele, City of Johannesburg ceo, adding: “As the most cosmopolitan city in South Africa, we are taking the MICE market seriously”.

Greening is a major topic at this year’s Meetings Africa event, with South African and Australian professionals coming together to get the message out to the events industry to “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and give back to the community”.
A seminar yesterday showcased the positive and negative implications of going green and the struggles of becoming a low carbon, sustainable economy.

Hosted buyers attending this week’s Meetings Africa 2011 conference in Johannesburg were flown to Cape Town yesterday to explore more of the country after completing two days of successful meetings and networking.
During the day the group were checked in privately at The Table Bay hotel by the Waterfront, before being taken on a sightseeing tour of the town, and up to Table Mountain on the Cableway.
A highlight of the day was a Harley Davidson motorcycle ride from Table Bay through Cape Town and back to the hotel.
To finish off the day the group were shown around the Taj Hotel and Westin Cape Town Hotel.

Meetings Africa’s hosted buyers from Australia and New Zealand were shown the best conference venues and incentive locations throughout the Cape Peninsula in Cape Town overnight.
Throughout the day the hosted buyers were lucky enough to see baboons sunning themselves on the road on the way to Cape Point, have their photo taken at the most South Western tip of Cape Town, and have a leisurely lunch at Harbour House Restaurant in Kalk Bay.
The group was spoilt with nibbles and champagne at Buffels Bay in Cape Point, a popular setting for meeting and incentive groups to delight in the
beach during a cocktail function.

On the way out of Cape Town a stop included the Groote Schwr Estate for a private tour of the former home of the 1890s Prime Minister of the Cape Colony (above), Cecil John Rhodes, who also helped launch the iconic diamond producer, the De Beers Mining Company, in the 1880s.

DRAGONFLY delighted South African Tourism’s hosted buyers last week with a day at the Cape Winelands.
The group experienced the Township of Langa, with a drive through watching the locals from the shanty town on the outskirts of the township on the street.
The first stop of the day included the Spier winery, and then a quick drive through Stellenbosch, a town with lots of Victorian style buildings.
Solms Delta winery, in Fyndraai proved popular with the group, with a tasting being offered while sitting out under a tree followed by a three course lunch, and the day finished with the group spending up big on local arts and crafts at the Green Square Markets.
