Melburnians had a surprise on their way to work this morning when a giant, pop-up maze took centre stage at Southbank inviting locals, commuters and tourists to ‘Get Lost’. The maze, which is open to the public free of charge for two days, contains experiences and hidden gems to give visitors a true taste of Singapore life. Activity within the maze includes fortune teller readings, a bespoke graffiti mural painted over two days by a local artist, authentic Singapore food hawker-style, flower garland making and ketupat weaving.
Singapore Tourism Board Regional Director, Kenneth Lim commented:
“The maze is a creative way to allow our Australian friends to sample what Singapore has to offer and to help dispel some of the myths and misconceptions they may have about Singapore, and show that there is so more to us than just Singapore Slings, and Chilli crab. We hope that Melburnians who, like us share a love of culture, good food and authentic experiences, will come and visit the ‘Get Lost’ maze for themselves and realise that indeed, there is so much more Singapore has to offer as a destination.”
The maze is brought to you by the Singapore Tourism Board as part of their latest campaign ‘Get Lost and Find the Real Singapore’ which challenges dated Australian perceptions of Singapore as a travel destination known mostly for Singapore Slings, Chilli crab and the air-conditioned shopping malls along Orchard Road.
The maze is open at Queensbridge Square, Southbank on Friday 27th April from 7am to 9pm, and on Saturday 28th April from 9am to 6pm.
