A delegation from New York City and Company is on a mission this week to show Australian travel agents the “great depth” that the destination can offer their clients.
Through a series of Visit USA roadshows, the first of which was held last night in Sydney, NYC & Co is promoting the accom, sightseeing, museums and shopping options on offer in all five boroughs in the Big Apple.
The roadshows will be moving on to Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane over the next week.
NYC is the number one US destination for Australians, said Makiko Matsuda Healy, Vice President Tourism Development.
Last year New York exceeded its 2012 goal of 50 million arrivals globally, one year ahead of schedule, with 533,000 visitors from the Australian market.
The new goal is 55 million people by 2015, a target which can only be achieved through the help of the travel industry, Healy said.
NYC & Co is offering agents the chance to win daily prizes over the next month by becoming a NYC specialist through its online academy at nycgo.com/training.
Winners will be announced at twitter.com/#1/nycgo_au.
There are currently 900 registered specialists – a number that Healy would like to see raised to 1200 by the end of Mar.
