The historic Pumphouse at Novotel Rockford Darling Harbour hosted a party last night to celebrate its relaunch after a swanky refurbishment which has seen new cow-hide ottomans, high-back love seats and artistic lighting added to its modern industrial decor. One of Sydney’s most historic sites – the original pumphouse station powered Sydney’s first lifts, wharf cranes and bank vault doors – has been given a new lease of life and boasts the city’s largest selection of boutique beers. With the adjacent Entertainment Centre celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the night featured music from the 80s as well as some rock and roll memorabilia provided by the Entertainment Centre and rock historian Glenn A. Baker was holding court at the bar telling tales about his encounters with music legends. Another legend – NSW bushranger Captain Thunderbolt – was also represented on the night with the Pumphouse’s signature Thunderbolt Brew in plentiful supply. Executive Chef Adam Norton wowed the crowd with endless food including Japanese pancakes with pork; beer marinated ribs; and salted banana and caramel mini pizzas and by the end of the night most of the crowd were on the dance floor.
