Not many travel corporations can call on former Australian cricket captain Allan Border in a time of need.
That is, unless you’re Queensland Rail. They’re the naming rights sponsor of the Queensland Rail Bulls Masters; a not-for-profit cricket team which travels around regional Queensland promoting sport and fundraising for various charities. The team features the likes of AB, Jeff Thomson, Matt Hayden, Jimmy Maher, Michael Kasprowicz, Andy Bichel, Ian Healy, Wendell Sailor and Wayne Grady.
The team played in Port Douglas on the weekend, and Border took a wicket with the last ball of the match to close out a tight match against a Far North Queensland Invitational XI.
While in Cairns, the Masters had the chance to catch up with some of their biggest fans from Queensland Rail Travel, who attended a sportsman’s dinner at The Sebel Hotel.
Far north Queensland is a hotspot for rail travel in the state; it’s home to the Kuranda Scenic Railway tourist train, while The Sunlander and Tilt Train both depart from Cairns.
