The Esmeralda is the sixth to carry the name, built in Cadiz, Spain in 1946 and launched on 12 May 1953. Since her commissioning, Esmeralda has been a training ship for the Chilean Navy, visiting more than 300 ports worldwide and acting as a floating embassy for Chile.
