The Republic of South Africa Minister of Tourism and South African Tourism, the Honourable Marthinus van Schalkwyk has today met with members of the Australian tourism industry to open dialogue on the importance of trade between the two countries.
Delegates from South African Tourism, recently appointed CEO Thulani Nzima and Chief Marketing Officer Roshene Singh, joined the Minister at the breakfast event at Sydney’s Hilton Hotel.
The Minister and the delegates addressed concerns over some of the barriers to travel that the trade industry encounters as well as discussing future plans for South African Tourism.
“We understand the opportunity that the Australian market presents to South Africa when it comes to tourism. Over seven million Australians are taking an overseas holiday on average each year and the strength of the Australian dollar, coupled with the inherent value for money offering that South Africa provides, means that we are in the perfect position to capitalise on this ever growing opportunity to build relations between our countries,” said Mr van Schalkwyk.
The event was attended by representatives from the industry including retail agents, wholesalers and tour operators.
“This morning has provided a platform for the industry to open a dialogue directly with myself and the executive team at South African Tourism, and we are humbled by the response from the tourism industry in Australia.
“We value the feedback from our industry and hope that collectively we can move forward to promote the benefits of tourism to South Africa, both leisure and business, driving our partnerships forward in 2012 and positioning South Africa as the destination of choice for the Australian traveler,” concluded Mr van Schalkwyk.
