These pics were taken at ‘Siam Safari’ in Phuket. Here is the story behind them.
This was my first ever holiday overseas and it’s safe to say that this is where I got a taste for travel. The reason that I love this photo so much is because it is of my mother, who came with me to Thailand. It is extremely rare to have a photo of my mum- much less her smiling in it. I think in all my 28 years, this is one of the only photos that I have managed to get of her!
The photo is so special because not long after this photo was taken, my mum had an accident and is now house-bound and basically quite limited even walking. This photo reminds me of the amazing time we shared in Phuket when she was well.
Since I have begun working in the travel industry, mum has taken so much pleasure in hearing of my little adventures travelling, but I have only ever been able to afford to go away for a weekend! So far I have been to Auckland in a weekend and Singapore in a weekend. So I have learnt how to make the most out of a short amount of time!
If I won this competition, I would take my niece with me who also works in the travel industry as a travel consultant. She has never been to Thailand and I think she would really benefit in her sales to experience the country first hand- and to be moved and delighted by the amazing sights and locals (oh and delectable food)!

This photo was taken on 5 March 2007 and is of my husband. It was taken during a trip to Chiang Mai and then Laos – no educational here!! (It should be pointed out that I am returning back to the industry that I love after an extended break). We were on a day trip that took in the Hill Tribes and stopped off at a wonderful paper factory, that was utilising “elephant poo” to make paper. Little did I know that the card I brought for a friend’s birthday for about 25 cents would end up costing her more than AUD $70.00 dollars to have it fumigated!! Elephant poo paper – apparently quarantine don’t like this. They did actually take the trouble of photocopying the contents, but my friend was not satisfied and paid the money so she could actually have the original. It is still a great laughing point and I think that it’s quite apt that my husband is actually pointing to an umbrella with elephants!

After visiting Thailand last year for the first time, I fell in love with the country and ELEPHANTS! The trip there was full of smiles and laughs just as big as these ones the whole time!!!!!!!!
This elephant trek in Phuket, with the gorgeous Pimpa (shame she’s not seen well here), made me realise just how incredible Thai elephants are!!!
