The hotel that Australia’s secret service made famous was in the spotlight again last week as Victoria’s Minister for Tourism & Major Events, Louise Asher and much-loved TV personality, Coxy took to the ‘garden stage’ to officially relaunch Melbourne’s newest name in hotels – Mercure Melbourne Treasury Gardens.
With Coxy lending his wit and character to the MC role he set the scene for the evening delving into a little bit of ‘rock star’ history the hotel has endured over the years, before introducing Accor’s Chief Operating Officer, Simon McGrath to the stage. Simon talked about his confidence in Melbourne’s tourism and hospitality scene and congratulated general manager Phil O’Brien and his team for an outstanding relaunch of the hotel before welcoming Minister Louise Asher to speak and officially unveil the hotel’s new name.
The Mercure’s Lime Bar & Restaurant was transformed for the evening into a garden treasure trove with an abundance of greenery, roses, white picket fences and grand garden statues to bring to life the hotel’s location, right on the doorstep of Melbourne’s Treasury Gardens.
It was a night to remember with over 100 guests attending the garden party including representatives from Minister Asher’s office, Tourism VIC and MCVB as well as partners of Accor, and of course, the hotel.
Guests were treated to surprise performances by the ‘stars’ from Dancing With The Stars Jessica Raffa and Carmelo Pizzino who delighted guests with their slick and sultry moves on the dance floor. The dance duo gave guests an exclusive preview into Accor’s sponsorship of the 2012 World Dance Sport Championship which will be held just up the road from the hotel at Hisense Arena this November. Singer/songwriter Georgie Olsen continued to entertain throughout the evening with her amazing acoustic, musical talents.
Celebrations concluded with site visits of the hotel’s newly refurbished rooms, with guests remarking that they very impressed with the vibrant and modern new look, noting the striped carpet design and black and white photography on the bed heads were particular standout features.
And the icing on the cupcakes, was literally, Mercure Melbourne Treasury Gardens alongside a take-home gift for guests – a seedling, inscribed with “Treasure this earth” representing the Treasury Gardens and Mercure’s Carbon Neutral Conference Incentive. |
