Australian and New Zealand travel specialist attendees of United Airlines and Gate 7’s California snow famil completed their trip with two glorious days staying at Mammoth Lakes. After a scenic drive from South Lake Tahoe to Mammoth, the group checked in to The Village Lodge, a beautiful property set in the heart of Mammoth which was recently named one of Conde Nast Traveler’s Top 50 Ski Resort properties. Nicolas Barrancos from Mammoth Mountain greeted the party for a tour of the best accommodation options in the area, which soon worked up enough of an appetite to conquer some hearty food at Campo Restaurant in the Village… where one brave travel agent ordered ice-cream with bacon pieces!
The following morning the group woke up to the deepest snow and most sunshine of any resort in North America – perfect conditions for a guided tour of the mountain from Nicolas and Michael Vanderhurst from Mammoth Lakes Tourism. With more than 3,500 acres of terrain, Mammoth Mountain is one of the largest ski resorts in the US and appeals to all levels and abilities. Mammoth offered spring skiing at its best – with a few sightings of brave skiers and riders sporting shorts or even bikini tops on the slopes!
After a serious pounding of nerves on the slopes, the famil group wound down over an all-American meal at Rafters. Mammoth was playing host to Elevation, North America’s second largest gay ski week, so the town wasn’t short of a party atmosphere for those that wanted to continue the fun! However, all good things must come to an end and the following day it was time to head to LAX to jump on a United flight back ‘Down Under’, but not before three members of the party squeezed in an early-morning snowmobile session.
